Celtic moved to within a point of Glasgow rivals Rangers with an admirable 3-0 win in the Scottish Premier League over a Hearts team that continues to falter.
Celtic looked to be in fine form from very early on, and following good chances for Shunsuke Nakamura and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink, the latter was eventually able to poke home the first goal after good play by Aiden McGeady.
The second half brought yet another goal from Scott McDonald, who pushed his way still further ahead as the SPLs top scorer with a total of 18 so far this season, as his header at the back post on 51 minutes made it 2-0.
Celtics third came courtesy of Andreas Hinkel after 76 minutes.
While this win will have buoyed spirits among Celtic fans, they face a sterner test on Wednesday when Barcelona visit Parkhead in the Champions League.
Rangers can push their lead in the SPL back to four points tomorrow if they win away against Kilmarnock.
In the days other matches, Celtics next opponents, St Mirren, went down 4-0 at Falkirk, with two goals apiece from Scott Arfield and Patrick Cregg. Motherwell also won 3-1 at Gretna, while Inverness Caledonian Thistle scored a late equaliser at home against Dundee United.
