Former Real Madrid galacticos Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham could line up against one another in a 'match of the century' to mark the centenary year of the Professional Footballer's Association (PFA).
The PFA has confirmed that an England legends side coached by former national team boss Terry Venables will take on a Rest of the World XI being overseen by one of his successors, Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Eriksson will take charge of a team which will be led out by Gianfranco Zola, while former England skipper Alan Shearer will captain the legends team in a glittering tie at the City of Manchester stadium in Eastlands.
Chief executive Gordon Taylor said the teams would be full of familiar faces for the match on December 2nd, with the game helping to raise money for a new children's rehabilitation and physiotherapy unit at the University Children's Hospital.
Some of the players on show include England legends Teddy Sheringham, Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle, while some of the Premiership's finest exponents - Roy Keane, David Ginola and Marcel Desailly are all pencilled in.
Together with the "one or two more surprises" in the shape of Becks and three-times Fifa world player of the year Zidane, Taylor is promising a "marvellous array of talent on what will be a fantastic occasion".
Zidane famously left the world of professional football with a flourish, scoring a penalty in the World Cup final in 2006 before being sent off for headbutting Italy defender Marco Materazzi.
