Manchester City target Samuel Eto'o has been offered a new contract by Barcelona, but it is still unclear if he will stay at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta claimed earlier this week that City had offered £25 million for the striker and were willing to make him the highest paid player in the world.
But it now seems like the European champions want to keep the Cameroon international and have offered him a two-year contract extension, which would see him stay at the club until the summer of 2012.
However, Eto'o's agent Josep Maria Mesalles revealed that earlier this month the club had told him that they wanted to sell Eto'o and he was now unsure why they have offered him a new deal.
"I don't know if everything changed in the space of an afternoon, I don't know if they really want Samuel to stay of if they just want to make money out of him," said Mesalles.
"He would be delighted to stay if they want him and we will study their offer if it is serious, but if they don't want him we will do all we can to help Samuel find a new club
"We have not sat down to speak to them Manchester City, but they have made Barcelona an offer. In theory he wanted to play in the Champions League, but if Manchester City have an offer accepted, we would be delighted to go there."
Eto'o has spent the past five years at Barcelona since moving from Real Mallorca. The 28-year-old has been a major player for the Catalans and has scored 130 goals for them in 200 appearances.
The striker was close to leaving Barcelona last summer after the arrival of Pep Guardiola and the Spanish side were thought to be now ready to cash-in on a player who has only one-year left on his current deal.
