Golfer Seve Ballesteros may be moved out of the intensive care unit of his Madrid hospital after doctors confirmed an improvement in his condition.
In a statement from La Paz hospital in the Spanish capital, officials said the 51-year-old is showing "favourable" signs.
The Spaniard has been receiving treatment for several weeks after surgeons removed the majority of the tumour from his brain in early October.
Ballesteros, who was first taken in after collapsing and briefly losing consciousness at Madrid airport, underwent two further operations to clear all remaining debris of the tumour.
And the hospital believes he is now stable enough to be downgraded, although he will remain on a ward at La Paz for continued treatment and observation.
"The neurological evolution of the patient Mr Severiano Ballesteros remains favourable," the statement read.
"He continues to receive rehabilitative treatment and it is likely that he could leave the intensive care unit next week and be placed in another ward."
Earlier this month the Ballesteros family released a statement on the golfer's personal website thanking members of the public for their messages of support.
The family have also said they will not comment further because they are hopeful that Ballesteros himself will provide an update when his health recovers to allow him to do so.
