Barcelona star Dani Alves has dismissed reports suggesting he could be set for a big-money move to Chelsea in the summer.
Chelsea came close to signing Alves in the summer of 2007 and 2008, but eventually lost out to Barcelona, who paid a massive £25 million for the right-back. But reports in the British press today claimed Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was ready to bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge.
However, Alves's media representatives have been quick to play down the rumours to show that the player is still fully committed to Barcelona.
"Daniel Alves knows about the interest of the London club today through the article in the ... tabloid," read a statement on behalf of Alves. "A denial is important in order to not give the wrong impression on this matter."
Chelsea had three bids for Alves turned down in 2007 when he was at Sevilla and the defender publically stated he wanted to move to Stamford Bridge and revealed his anger with Sevilla president José María Del Nido for turning down the offers made by Chelsea.
Alves made the move to Barcelona last summer and has been a huge success at the Nou Camp. The 25-year-old has helped the club to the top of La Liga and has formed a formidable partnership with Lionel Messi.
