Jacques Kallis scored an unbeaten century as South Africa beat West Indies by seven wickets to clinch the one-day series at Port Elizabeth.

The Windies improved their batting from Friday's woeful display and set 252-7 in their 50 overs, with Marlon Samuels making 98 while opener Sewnarine Chattergoon made 52.

South Africa passed their target with ten balls to spare thanks to Kallis' 16th ODI ton, while skipper Graeme Smith hit 52 to put the Proteas 3-0 up in the series.

Despite missing Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the tourists battled well after the early loss of Brenton Parchment for five.

Patrick Browne hit 35 off 54 balls on his debut at number three, sharing a partnership of 73 with Chattergoon.

Samuels then came to the crease and after being dropped on 19 by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher he smashed seven boundaries and four sixes, before being caught in the deep off the bowling of Morne Morkel from the last ball of the innings.

In reply Herschelle Gibbs once again failed with the bat, making 15 before Jerome Taylor took a fine running catch after a bouncer from Darren Powell.

Smith and Kallis put on 82 in 17 overs before the Proteas' captain was guilty of another lazy shot after being caught by Darren Sammy off the bowling of Samuels.

Kallis frustrated the tourist's bowlers by grinding out singles and passed his century off 120 balls. JP Duminy made an unbeaten 36 off 50 balls and hit the winning runs for the home side.

The penultimate ODI of the series is on Friday in Durban.
