Former Australian fast bowler Geoff Lawson is set to be named the new Pakistan coach tomorrow.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will officially announce the successor to Bob Woolmer, who tragically died during Pakistan's disastrous World Cup campaign in March.
Lawson, 49, is among three Aussies on the PCB's shortlist with former Sri Lanka coach Dav Whatmore and Richard Done.
The former bowler, who has never coached at international level, said he is looking forward to the PCB's decision.
"I'm still talking to them [PCB]. All things being equal, if they do offer me the position there are few details to sort out," Lawson said.
"I am too enthusiastic if it happens, and if the doesn't there still a lot of cricket in Australia. But I am looking forward to hearing it officially on Monday."
Whatmore was the favourite for the job but ex-Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranataunga is alleged to have advised Pakistan against appointing him during a meeting in Glasgow.
A PCB source said: "The vote went in favour of Lawson because he is young, has done a good job as New South Wales coach and has been backed by the Pakistani players and manager whole-heartedly."
"The players wanted Lawson because they found him comfortable to work alongside with and also because he like them has a very positive and aggressive style of coaching."
After the Twenty20 World Championships in September, Pakistan face a home series against South Africa before touring bitter rivals India in November.
