A British national has died in a shootout in Kabul, Afghanistan, that killed two other people.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office told inthenews.co.uk it had informed the family of David Giles of his death.
Mr Giles died alongside a South African colleague from courier DHL after an argument broke out outside their offices in the centre of the Afghan capital.
"Consular staff are providing the relevant support to the victim's family," an FCO spokeswoman said.
The shooting's third victim is understood to have been an Afghan national.
There are reports the Afghan victim was killed by security personnel after opening fire on the Briton and South Africa, although the circumstances of the shooting are unclear.
DHL has its Kabul offices just 100m from the presidential palace.
Several locals were also injured in the shooting, according to reports.
Fatal shootings are rare in Kabul, while the deaths of foreign nationals are rarer still.
Last week, however, British-South African aid worker Gayle Williams, 34, was killed as she travelled to work in another part of the capital.
The Taliban claimed the gunned down Ms Williams because she was working for a Christian organisation.
