Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink was pleased to walk out of St James' Park with three points after beating Alan Shearer's Newcastle side 2-0.
Hiddink said it had been a difficult task for his side following the wave of support Shearer received from the Magpies fans after news of his appointment earlier in the week.
Before the match Hiddink had warned the Blues about the 'new manager effect' Newcastle would have in their favour and was delighted to have won the match.
"I think we have come here in special circumstances with the coming of Alan Shearer, which gave a lot of articles and talking in recent days," the Russia manager said.
"We had to confront that because it gives extra energy to a team and the crowd.
"We are happy to get three points and in the way we played for the good part of the game."
The Blues are now just one point behind Manchester United and three adrift of leaders Liverpool.
Hiddink says the positive result against the Magpies makes the three points dropped at Tottenham two weeks ago all the more disappointing.
But the Dutchman has not given up hope that Chelsea can regain the title and hopes to keep the pressure on their rivals.
He added: "Now we regret even more we lost our points against Spurs but nevertheless until it's over we keep on fighting and we try to put the pressure on both who are on top of us at the moment.
"We have to keep on winning with home games now and keep the pressure on."
Chelsea's next league mach is against Bolton Wanderers, a fixture which is sandwiched between two Champions League encounters with Liverpool.
