More than 100 people feared dead after pilgrims stampede at Hindu temple in northern India (Naina Devi)
More than 140 people are feared dead after pilgrims stampeded at a Hindu temple in northern India.

The latest death-toll for the Naina Devi temple incident is 145, with up to half of the victims said to be children.

The stampede at the temple, at Himachal Pradesh in the shadow of the Himalayas, is thought to have begun when an iron railing collapsed.

Up to 3,000 people were expected at the temple on Sunday, but thousands more arrived from neighbouring Punjab.

The collapse of the iron barrier is thought to have started the panic, with children and other pilgrims being crushed under the feet of other worshippers.
