Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has completed the signing of Werder Bremen midfielder Amaury Bischoff for an undisclosed fee.
The French-born Portugal under-21 international can play in central midfield or on the right wing, although he is something of a little-known player - as seems traditional for most of Wenger's signings.
Bischoff, 21, played for French side SR Colmar and Strasbourg before joining Bremen in 2005, where he has been involved with the youth team for three years.
He only made one senior appearance for the Bundesliga giants - against Celta Vigo in the Uefa Cup group stages last year - but he comes highly recommended by several German pundits who have been monitoring his progress closely.
"Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to welcome Amaury, who will wear squad number 28, and will join up with his team-mates for preseason when the squad returns from their training camp in Austria," a statement from the club reads.
Bischoff played for France's under-18 team earlier in his career but has since adhered to his Portuguese roots and opted for their under-21 side with a view to breaking into the senior squad.
