Versatile veteran Stanley Gene has agreed a new one-year contract with Hull KR to extend his playing career until the end of the 2009 Super League season.
There had been rumours the 34-year-old, who has also enjoyed spells with Huddersfield Giants, Bradford Bulls and Hull FC during his time in England, was considering hanging up his boots or switching clubs to continue his association with the sport.
But the Papua New Guinea international will be able to add to his 146 appearances for the club after representing his country during the World Cup in Australia this autumn.
"I love rugby league and I love this club," Gene said.
"Rovers gave me my first chance when I came over here and will always hold a very special place in my heart."
Rather than viewing the ageing Gene, who has scored more than a century of tries for Rovers, as a bit-part player for 2009, head coach Justin Morgan said he is a "valued member of the team that is very much in our plans for next season".
"Stan is like a fine wine that matures with age, he never ceases to amaze me with his ability week in and week out," he added.
