Eighteen people have died in an apparent suicide bomb attempt upon the life of an opposition
Pakistani MP.
Rasheed Akbar Niwani was hurt in the attack at his home in Bhakkar, in the Punjab region of Pakistan.
Thirty other people were wounded when the bomber blew himself up, police officer Khadim Hussain told the AFP news agency.
"It was a suicide attack, the head of the bomber has been recovered," he said.
"The bomber walked up to the MP's house and detonated himself in the midst of a crowd of party workers, supporters and relatives."
Police have intimated that the attack may have been motivated by sectarian tensions, with Mr Akbar Niwani belonging to the Shia Muslim community.
