Pakistani authorities have stepped up security at Islamabad's international airport after reports of a potential suicide attack.

Planes are continuing to take off and land at the airport but some parts of the building have been closed.

Pakistan's capital was hit by a suicide car bomb attack on Saturday at the Marriott hotel, leaving 53 people dead and more than 250 people injured.

Earlier, the group which claimed responsibility for the hotel attack, known as Fedayeen al-Islam, warned of more attacks.

British Airways has already suspended all flights to Pakistan indefinitely and the US has banned all government officials from staying in major hotels in Islamabad, Karachi and Peshawar.

Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari met with US president George Bush earlier this week to discuss the escalating violence in the country.
