Great Britain's Australian coach Tony Smith has revealed he will be applying for British citizenship.
Smith is currently in his homeland looking at the venues and facilities for the Rugby League World Cup later this year.
When he returns, he will take a 45-miunte citizenship test and attend a ceremony to swear allegiance to the Queen and the United Kingdom.
"I'm going to get it done as soon as I get back and become a true Pom - or as close to a true Pom as I can," said Smith.
"Sitting the test won't be a problem but you have to hand your passport over for up to six months.
"Finding a window of six months has been difficult for me and is part of the reason for me going to Australia now."
Smith made a brilliant start to his career as coach of Great Britain as he led the team to a crushing 3-0 series win over New Zealand.
He will be taking charge of England in the World Cup as the nations of the British Isles will take part as separate teams in the showpiece event.
The 40-year-old came to England in 2001 as coach of Huddersfield Giants.
But he made his name with Leeds Rhinos, where he spent four successful seasons. Smith led the club to their first league title in 32 years and won the World Club Challenge the following year.
