England crushed New Zealand by nine wickets in their Twenty20 match at Old Trafford.

After being put into bat, the tourists limped to 123-9 with Ross Taylor top-scoring with 25. Chris Broad, James Anderson, and Graeme Swann all took two wickets.

England reached their paltry target with 15 balls to spare with Ian Bell unbeaten on 60 while Kevin Pietersen made 42 not out.

The Kiwis, beaten 2-0 in the Test series, made a woeful start with Anderson removing Jamie How for one.

Brendon McCullum (24), James Marshall (13), and Taylor all failed to capitalise on good starts.

Daniel Flynn hit 23 off 19 balls before being stumped by Tim Ambrose off the bowling of Swann.

Skipper Daniel Vettori was left stranded on 11 as the Black Caps ran out of balls.

England's new look opening partnership of Bell and Luke Wright made 48. Wright, who was dropped by Flynn early on, made 24 off 18 balls before being dismissed by Michael Mason.

Bell, looking to find some form after a below-par Test series, smashed nine boundaries and a six on his way to passing 50.

Pietersen made a composed 42 off 41 balls as England passed their target with ease, to gain the psychological edge ahead of the first one-day international on Sunday at the Riverside.
