British woman dies after bus crash in South Island, New Zealand.
A British woman has died after a bus crash in South Island, New Zealand.

According to police, the 62-year-old tourist was killed instantly in the crash when the bus crashed on a state highway at Charleston in the Buller district of the South Island's west coast region.

The crash of the Stray Travel tour bus occurred at 15:50 local time (02:50 GMT) on Saturday.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the department was aware of the incident but would not confirm the name of the woman until her next of kin had been contacted.

Another person is reported to have been seriously injured while a further 20 are being treated for minor injuries.

David Lewis, of Ammanford, south Wales, told the BBC his 23-year-old daughter Amy had been on the bus at the time of the crash.

"She was sitting next to the woman who died and was talking to her," he said.

"And then this lady said she was going to the front of the bus because she was getting off at the next stop and that was when the accident happened."

"Apparently the road was wet and the coach slipped down the bank and turned over four times and there were no seat belts."
