John Bracewell has expressed his confidence that on-form opening batsman Jesse Ryder will be fit to face England in New Zealand's next one-day international match.
The newcomer hit an impressive half-century in the host's 10-wicket victory over England in the second game of the series but has since been struggling with an ankle injury he picked up late last week.
However, coach Bracewell has stated that he will give Ryder every opportunity to prove his fitness in time for Tuesday's fixture, though he has called in all-rounder Daniel Flynn as provisional cover.
Commenting on Ryder's chances, he said: "It's too early to say but we're more confident as the days progress."
"He feels a lot better today and we won't know a lot more until he starts running around on it but he has had these days to heal."
The tourists go into the third game of the five-match series 2-1 down, having come back from their shocking performance in the second game to win in Aukland.
Steve Harmison is expected to join the rest of the England team in New Zealand just prior to the penultimate test, the English Cricket Board has announced.
