Wales have kept their World Cup hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein at the Millennium Stadium.

A first-half strike from David Edwards and an own goal from Mario Frick puts the Dragons top of Group Four, ahead of Wednesday's clash away to Germany.

The first-half was a cagey affair with the only chance of note in the opening minutes falling for Craig Bellamy, whose shot was deflected onto the bar.

And the West Ham striker went close again minutes before the break with a low strike that skimmed the post, which Sam Vokes then failed to connect with Jason Koumas' through ball.

John Toshack's side broke the deadlock on 40 minutes when Chris Gunter's cut back was slammed in by Edwards for his first international goal.

Two minutes later the home side were awarded a penalty when Gareth Bale was brought down in the area, but Bellamy's spot-kick was saved by Peter Jehle.

The second-half was a tame affair despite the introduction of Ched Evans and Carl Robinson, who came on for his 50th cap.

Their nerves were settled on 80 minutes when Evans' header struck striker Mario Frick's knee and rolled into the net to seal victory.
The win gives Wales two wins from their first three qualifying games.
