Rapper 50 Cent has said he will end his solo album career if his new record is outsold by Kanye West.

The American artist, whose previous hit albums include Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre, made the pledge in an interview with SOHH.com about his Curtis LP.

Like Kanye West's Graduation, the record hits the shops on September 11th – prompting the potential for competition between the pair.

"They would like to see Kanye West give me a problem because I've worked myself into a space where I've become the favourite. Everybody roots for the underdog when he goes against the favourite," he explained.

"Let's raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11th, I'll no longer write music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums," he pledged.

The dramatic nature of 50 Cent's bet is no surprise given his previous success. He is one of the biggest hip-hop stars in the world after his last effort, The Massacre, went platinum seven times over.

Fiddy, real name Curtis Jackson, has repeatedly said in the past his New York upbringing in South Jamaica, Queens, has got him where he is today.

In April 2000 the star, who transformed himself from street hood and drug dealer, was shot nine times in front his grandmother.
