Chelsea have received good news regarding the injury sustained by striker Dider Drogba, with a medical report stating he will be out for "weeks, not months".
The Ivory Coast international collapsed awkwardly on the turf during Wednesday night's 0-0 draw with CFR Cluj in the Champions League.
And replays of the incident suggested Drogba may have suffered torn ligaments in his knee - which could have ruled him out for the rest of the season.
However, after a thorough examination of the injury, a statement from Chelsea's medical staff suggested the striker will not need an operation to correct the injury and it is not as bad as first feared.
"Didier Drogba has had two forceful rotations in his knee and ankle," the statement reads.
"Fortunately, he has avoided any significant ligamentus rupture.
"He will not be requiring surgery. We will keep him under observation for the next two or three days before putting an estimate on how long he'll be out.
"But we're certainly looking at weeks, not months."
When he picked up his latest problem, Drogba was just on his way back to full match fitness after several weeks out because of knee surgery he underwent over the summer.
In his absence the Blues have looked less of a threat up front and have had to rely on Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka for goals.
