Wales coach Warren Gatland has admitted he would consider taking the British Lions job if he was approached ahead of the tour to South Africa in 2009.
Gatland previously enjoyed success in the northern hemisphere with Wasps and has been an instant hit as Wales coach having won his first two games in charge.
Although the Lions coach will not be named for some time Gatland's victories with Wales have prompted questions as to whether he would consider the post.
However the New Zealander says he primary commitment is to Wales and he would not take on the extra responsibility unless he felt sure it would not negatively impact on Wales' progress.
"It's flattering to be considered, but it isn't something I have thought about. I suppose if we win a few more games anything is possible," said Gatland.
But the former Wasps and Ireland boss believes he has an advantage that former Wales and British Lions coach Graham Henry did not have when he took the reigns.
Gatland said: "They need to consider whether they go for someone local. Probably an advantage I would have over Graham Henry is that I have been in the northern hemisphere for so long and perhaps I understand England and Ireland.
"My first job is Wales and making sure this role is done and there's development to get Welsh rugby going first. I have to think long term to the 2011 World Cup. That's my number one priority.
"It's flattering to be considered for the Lions, but that's not my number one priority at the moment. I wouldn't consider that until everything here is in place."
Wales remain on course for a Six Nations Grand Slam showdown with France on the final day of the championship and will hope to go one step closer to their target when they face Italy on February 23rd.
