Forensic tests are being carried out on a knife found near the house where British student Meredith Kercher was killed in Italy.
Police say the knife, which is small with a round handle, was discovered in undergrowth close to the property in Perugia.
Bloodstained tissues found near the knife are also being tested.
Another knife has been found in the investigation; an eight-inch kitchen knife which police discovered in the flat of Raffaele Sollecito, a 23-year-old held on suspicion of the 21-year-old's murder.
Sollecito's girlfriend, American student Amanda Knox, and Rudy Hermann Guede, 20, are also accused of Ms Kercher's murder. All deny any involvement.
Ms Kercher, from Coulsdon, Surrey, was killed in the flat she shared with Ms Knox, 20, on November 1st.
Her partially-clothed body was discovered the following day, with police saying her throat had been cut and that she had been subject to a violent sexual attack.
Italian prosecutors have suggested that more than one person killed Ms Kercher, and that her killers knew her well.
