Australia fly-half Matt Giteau was in superb form as he scored all the points in his side's 22-6 win over France in Sydney.
The French came into the game high in confidence after an impressive 1-1 drawn Test series against the mighty All Blacks. But today they come against an inspired Giteau who gave a virtuoso performance.
Australia could have taken the lead inside the first two minutes as Drew Mitchell dived over for the try, but the video referee decided the winger had lost the ball.
It was Giteau who started the opening try as his long pass freed captain Stirling Mortlock and the ball was moved on to Lachlan Turner and Berrick Barnes, before Giteau went over for the try. The fly-half added the conversion.
France fly-half Lionel Beauxis kicked a penalty after 21 minutes, but Giteau then kicked a penalty to give his side a 10-3 half-time lead.
Giteau added four more penalties in the second-half to secure the win for the Wallabies with Dimitri Yachvili kicking a consolation penalty for the French.
"It's been a solid month for us and it's good background for us and that was better than a solid performance," said Australia coach Robbie Deans, who also watched his side beat Italy twice this month.
"There were elements there that we've been working on, our defence was obvious and it was a full team effort, everyone got into the game and added something."
