Rio Ferdinand could be a doubt for Manchester United's vital Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday.
The central defender injured his ankle during United's 4-0 FA Cup win over Fulham and did not appear in the second half of the match.
Manager Alex Ferguson says Ferdinand's injury could rule him out for the game against Inter but will have to wait for test results and how quickly he is able to recover.
Ferguson said: "Rio's a bit of a concern. He's gone over on his ankle and we just have to wait and see how he is now.
"I just hope he makes Wednesday because he's such an important player to us."
If Ferdinand is unable to play then Jonny Evans may have to continue deputising in the middle of the defence.
Evans had a pain-killing injection to participate in the first leg against Inter at the San Siro with United desperately short of defenders on that occasion as well.
Despite that United still kept a clean sheet in Milan and will hope to do so again at Old Trafford with or without Ferdinand.
United could also have a problem at right-back for the last-16 tie. Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Rafael da Silva are all nursing injuries.
Utility man John O'Shea was set to play there in their absence on Wednesday but he also took a knock against Fulham and is in a race to be fit in time.
If O'Shea is not able to play Ferguson may have to ask midfielder Darren Fletcher to fill in at right-back.
