Italian airline Alitalia is likely to lose its licence to fly today, unless it can find a rescuer.
If the flag-carrier fails to present a valid rescue plan to the Italy's civil aviation authority ENAC by the end of the day the body will withdraw the firms operating licence.
The news follows weeks of financial uncertainty over the airline, with the CAI group of investors withdrawing a potential rescue package early last week, after failing to come to agreement with unions over potential job losses.
Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has called the unions to Rome for a meeting, aimed at averting the crisis.
This is has sparked rumours a potential deal could still be put in place at the last minute.
Alitalia is rumoured to be losing around 2 million (£1.2 million) a day, and is presently flying on a temporary licence according to the ENAC.
Earlier this week the airlines administrators placed adverts in four newspapers, including the Financial Times, in an appeal for buyers to come forward.
All potential buyers will be required to make their interest known by September 30th.
