A Palestinian boy has been shot dead by Israeli troops following an incident on the West Bank.

The incident occurred during a protest in the West Bank on Tuesday when Hammad Hossam Mussa was hit by a bullet fired by Israeli soldiers.

Local medical sources say the boy died of his wounds while on route to hospital.

Reports claim the troops fired towards a group of protestors who had run into the village of Ni'lin after the army dispersed a crowd near the separation wall in the West Bank.

Salah Al Khawaja, a member of Ni'lin's Committee Against the Wall, told the AFP news agency: "Protesters arrived at the wall's construction site outside the village and the soldiers started to open fire with rubber bullets and tear gas. This pushed the protesters back into the village where the boy was hit by a live bullet in his chest."

Four years ago the International Court of Justice called for part of the wall to be torn down and construction to be stopped. Israel, however, has failed to listen to the ruling.
