Israel bombarded the Gaza Strip for a seventh consecutive day despite calls by the Palestinian militant group Hamas to retaliate with a "day of wrath".
This morning a number of targets, including a mosque, were struck by Israeli bombs, with claims the Palestinian militants were continuing to fire rockets in response.
More than 400 people are now thought to have died in Gaza, with the United Nations claiming at least 100 of them are civilians.
On Thursday, senior Hamas leader Nizar Rayyan was killed when his house was struck by the Israeli attacks.
In response, Hamas has called on Palestinians to protest against the air-strikes, resulting in a severe crackdown by the authorities in Israel.
Reports suggest movements for Palestinians in the West Bank have been severely restricted and police have been stationed around East Jerusalem.
Israel is continuing to gather tanks and troops near the Gaza Strip with threats of a ground assault to follow the air-raids.
Previously, Israel has rejected calls for a truce and has stressed that the air-strikes were just the first phase of a lengthy campaign already approved by its cabinet.
