An Israeli air strike has killed at least six Hamas members in Gaza, reports claim.
The attack on a Hamas security position took place near the town of Khan Yunis and followed the killing of two Palestinian gunmen by Israeli troops, near Rafah.
The incidents come after Hamas claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at the town of Dimona in Southern Israel yesterday.
Commenting on today's air strike, a Hamas official said: "The men were in afternoon prayers inside the police station when the missile struck."
An Israeli army spokesman said that the attack was "in response to the rocket launchings that hit Sderot this morning".
The army also confirmed the killing of the gunmen at Rafah saying: "The soldiers operating in that sector spotted two suspects and opened fire. They were hit."
According to Aljazeera, hospital sources have named the men as Mahmud Abu Taher and Baker Abu Rajal.
Hamas reportedly fired more rockets on the town of Sderot following the air strike and vowed to take continued action.
"This blood will not be shed in vain; this crime will not go unanswered and the Israeli occupation will pay a heavy price," AFP quotes Sami Abu Zuhri as saying.
