In a mocking reference to George Bush's threats against Iraq in early 2003, Iran has warned of a "shock and awe" response to any military attack on the Islamic Republic.
"No strategic mistake by the US or Israel will be overlooked by Iran," said senior commander of the Islamc Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Maj Gen Mohammad Ali-Jafari.
Referring to the recent large scale Israeli air manoeuvres, believed to be a rehearsal for a strike against Iran, Maj Gen Jafari said, "Washington and Tel Aviv's inability to face Iran's defensive capabilities has caused them to resort to psychological warfare."
Washington has designated the IRGC as a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction, and one of its units, the Qods Force, as a terrorist organisation.
In recent weeks there have been several warnings from Iran of a "limitless response" to any attack.
