At least 23 people are reported to have been crushed to death while waiting for charity handouts in eastern Indonesia, local police report.A wealthy family was handing out $4.25 (£2.35) to every local resident in the town of Pasuruan when chaos broke out.Indonesian television footage showed women screaming as the crowd pushed people into a fence.The charity handouts are a traditional part of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. Under a system known as Zakat, wealthy Muslims are required to give away some of their money every year.
