Indian superstar Sachin Tendulkar got out in the 90s for the sixth time this year but his team secured a one-day series win over Pakistan in Gwalior today.
Tendulkar smashed 97 from 102 balls and Yuvraj Singh (53), Virender Sehwag (43) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (45 not out), helped India easily chase down Pakistan's total of 255-6.
But all the talk afterwards was of Tendulkar's failure to reach a hundred. The batsman, who already has 41 one-day hundreds, admitted that getting out in the 90s was started to affect him.
"I've fallen into the wrong habit and the more I think about it the more it's going to be a problem," he said. "Most satisfying is that we've won the series and won the match."
The 34-year-old has been a fulcrum of the Indian team since making his debut in 1990. But today he chose to focus on the brilliance of his younger team-mates Yuvraj and Dhoni.
"They ran hard and played big shots as well - full credit to them. It's important that the lower middle order chips in and they have been doing it consistently, right throughout the series," he said.
India, who now lead the five match series 3-1, will still want to beat their arch-rivals in the final match in Jaipur on Sunday.
