Triple Golden Globe winner Slumdog Millionaire is leading the way in the Evening Standard British film awards with three nominations.

Danny Boyle is well placed to follow up recognition in Hollywood after being named in the best director category, while lead actor Dev Patel is included in the nominations for best newcomer and Mark Digby receives a nod for technical achievement.

But the movie, about a boy from the slums of Mumbai (Patel) recounting his life story after getting to the last question on the Hindi version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, misses out on the best film category, which will be contested by Frost/Nixon, Hunger and Unrelated.

Kate Winslet, who won two Golden Globes this week for best actress and best supporting actress is nominated in the best actress category in the Evening Standard awards for both The Reader and Revolutionary Road.

The winners in the awards, which have been running since 1973, will be announced on February 2nd.
