The mother of murdered British teenager Scarlett Keeling has returned to the UK to bury her daughter.

Fiona MacKeown arrived at Heathrow airport last night with her teenage daughter's coffin after flying from Mumbai, India.

Scarlett's semi-naked body was found on a beach in Goa on February 19th.

Ms MacKeown said she now planned to organise the 15-year-old's funeral, due to take place in north Devon in April, before returning to India.

"It is really good to be back," she told reporters at Heathrow last night. "I just want now to bury my daughter.

"Then I will return to Goa - I am worried it will all die down over there now I have left."

Two men have so far been arrested in connection with Scarlett's rape and murder.

Samson D'Souza has been remanded in custody on suspicion of raping the teenager, while Placido Carvalho, said to be in his 30s, has appeared in court accused with drugging Scarlett prior to her murder.

Scarlett was allowed to remain in the holiday resort with her 25-year-old boyfriend while her mother and family travelled elsewhere.

Police initially said the teenager's death was accidental and that she had drowned after taking drugs.

But a second post-mortem revealed injuries consistent with murder, which led to two people being arrested, both of whom remain in custody.

A police officer has already been suspended amid claims of a cover-up, while the original pathologist has also temporarily stepped down.
