A composed 85 from opener Gautham Gambhir helped India to a comfortable seven-wicket victory in the one-day international against Scotland in Glasgow today.
Chasing a revised target of 204 from 46 overs, Gambhir put on 104 with Robin Uthappa for the first wicket as India reached their target with 37 balls to spare.
Scotland did extremely well to reach 203-9 from their allocated overs after they were struggling badly on 49-4.
India's pace trio of Agit Agarkar, Munaf Patel and RP Singh extracted movement from the pitch to remove the Scottish top-order and claimed six wickets between them.
Experienced duo Gavin Hamilton and Neil McCallum saved their side by putting on a stand of 82. Former England all-rounder Hamilton scored 44 and McCallum finished on 41.
Scotland seemed to have put on a competitive score when Craig Wright smashed 37 from 34 balls.
But although India rested superstar batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly after a gruelling Test series against England, they strolled to their victory target.
The hosts needed to take early wickets to put the Indians under pressure, but youngsters Gambhir and Uthappa took the game away from the Scots in the first 20 overs, putting on a century partnership.
When Scotland did make the breakthrough to get rid off Uthappa for 55, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh came in and scored a brisk 38 from 28 balls which sealed the game for India as they ended on 212-3.
India now go on to face England in seven one-dayers with the first at the Rose Bowl next Tuesday.
