Former international spinner Ashley Giles will join the coaching ranks of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), it has been announced.
The Warwickshire man, who has been forced to stop playing professionally because of a hip injury, has been released by his county to take up the role with the England performance programme (EPP) for young players.
The youth squad includes a number of budding full internationals and even some who have been capped already, such as fast bowler Chris Tremlett and all-rounder Luke Wright.
They travel to India this winter for a training camp, where Giles will work exclusively with young spinners such as Adil Rashid of Yorkshire and Chris Schofield of Surrey.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of working with the players involved in the EPP," said Giles.
"It's exciting to be so hands-on in a coaching role, particularly with my new position as director of cricket at Warwickshire.
"It'll be great to get back involved in the England set-up after being forced out early through injury and being around an England dressing room again in India will be a fantastic experience."
If the experiment with Giles is a success he could move up to work with the senior squad in the coming years alongside current ECB spin coach David Parsons, who has travelled to Sri Lanka with the Test team.
