Frank Lampard has joined midfield partner Steven Gerrard on the sidelines after being assessed by the England medical staff ahead of this Wednesday's friendly against Germany.
The Chelsea vice-captain reported at the England hotel in Watford last night, along with fellow injury concerns Gerrard and club-mate John Terry.
However, after undergoing an examination by the team doctor on his rib complaint Lampard has been ruled out of the match in Berlin.
Gerrard was not expected to be fit because of a groin injury, Liverpool said, and this has been confirmed by England after coach Fabio Capello forced the Reds star to register along with his international colleagues.
With the midfield duo ruled out, Fulham playmaker Jimmy Bullard and West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker have been called up as cover and will join in with the team training session today.
There was also better news on team captain Terry, who the FA said "successfully came through a full training session this morning and is expected to be fit for the game in Berlin".
