Former world number one Marat Safin has lost to wildcard John Isner in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters, while current top player Rafael Nadal is safely through.
Safin, seeded 24th at the California event, went down in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to the American in an hour and 15 minutes as Isner continued the good run of form that saw him knock out ninth seed Gael Monfils in the second round on Saturday.
However, top seed Rafael Nadal is safely through to the fourth round after cruising past Dmitry Tursanov in straight sets.
The Spaniard looked close to his best form as he easily despatched the Russian 26th seed 6-3 6-3 and book a last-16 match against David Nalbandian, who beat Viktor Troicki 6-4 6-2.
Elsewhere, Nalbandian's fellow Argentinean - sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro - booked his place in round four with a 6-2 2-6 7-6 win over Austria's Jurgen Melzer.
And the United States' Andy Roddick joined the South Americans in the next round by eliminating Nicolas Kiefer of Germany 6-4 7-6.
