England started the first day of the IRB Sevens World Series at Twickenham in impressive fashion today.
That hosts ran out 3114 victors against Samoa in their final game of the day after dispatching Samoa 610 and battling past France 20-14.
England are currently second in the overall standings, 28 points behind leaders South Africa, and need to win the London tournament if they are to have any chance of stopping the Springboks claiming their first ever sevens crown.
South Africa for their part were equally dominant on the first day, overcoming Germany and Wales without too much fuss before a brilliant game against Australia which they eventually won 17-14.
Scotland will also be pleased with their day's work after beating Fiji and USA. They had earlier come undone against Kenya when they squandered a 12-0 lead at half time to lose 1712.
The Kenyans were one of the stars of the day, with their huge support cheering everything they did. They will line up in the plate tournament tomorrow though after losing to Fiji in their final game.
