Depeche Mode have cancelled their show at London's O2 Arena on Saturday after lead singer Dave Gahan had a cancerous tumour removed.
The Just Can't Get Enough stars had been due to perform at the former Millennium Dome on May 30th but the date will be now be rescheduled after lead singer Dave Gahan fell ill earlier this month.
The 47-year-old was taken ill with gastroenteritis before a concert in Athens and has not recovered sufficiently to perform in London this weekend, the band's publicists confirmed.
However, the band have announced their Tour of the Universe jaunt will restart in Leipzig, Germany on June 8th, with a statement issued today revealing the severity of Gahan's illness.
"On May 12th, Dave Gahan suffered a severe bout of gastroenteritis, leading to his hospitalisation and the cancellation of the Athens concert," a spokesperson said.
"While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed.
"At doctors' orders Dave Gahan must take a break until June 8th, to ensure that he makes a full recovery."
The statement added: "Dave Gahan sincerely thanks his fans for their support, understanding and patience.
"Depeche Mode deeply regret any problems or inconveniences the cancellations and postponements may have caused."
The three-piece, who have sold more than 75 million albums worldwide, recently released their 12th album Sounds of the Universe.
The May 30th show at London's O2 Arena will be rescheduled to new date, to be announced shortly, with the band's performance at the Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf regrettably cancelled.
