French club Toulon have confirmed that they are in talks with Newcastle Falcons fly-half Jonny Wilkinson over a potential big-money move this summer.
Coach-elect Philippe Saint-Andre, who will leave Sale to take over the Top 14 outfit at the end of the season, has confirmed to several news sources that the club chairman "is in contact" with the former England Test star.
"They are making progress," he added.
It has been understood by inthenews.co.uk sources for some time that Wilkinson is due to move to France for a hefty fee, believed to be in the region of £700,000.
The half-back's return from a knee injury is also thought to have been held back somewhat due to his ongoing contract talks elsewhere.
However, Wilkinson - who has been beset by injury problems since guiding England to the World Cup title in 2003 - would require a medical before signing an official contract with Toulon, or any other party.
Wilkinson's move to Saint-Andre's new side could be confirmed in the next few weeks, if negotiations continue at their current pace and the club are successful in retaining their Top 14 spot for next season.
