Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of defender Gael Givet from Marseille on a four-year contract.

The French international originally moved to Ewood Park in January this year on a six-month loan, with manager Sam Allardyce retaining a purchase option on the player.

And after a string of good displays in his 18 league and cup appearances for Rovers, the club have opted to sign him permanently until the end of the 2012/13 season for an undisclosed fee.

Givet is capable of playing at left-back or in the centre of defence and has completed the paperwork to finalise his move from France to England ahead of the beginning of pre-season training next month.
