Jurors hearing the inquest into the death of Princess Diana ten years ago are visiting the Ritz Hotel in Paris this morning on the second day of their visit to the French capital.
The princess and Dodi al-Fayed spent the last hours of their lives in the hotel before embarking on their fatal journey and, after analysing CCTV footage of their movements, the jurors will now gain a first-hand sense of the hotel's surroundings.
Yesterday the 11 anonymous jurors retraced the final trip made by the black Mercedes the princess was travelling in on August 31st 1997 and observed the site where the car crashed in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel.
Coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker had requested the media be mindful that jurors were performing a public duty and has told journalists not to surround them during their work. He also requested that they should not be identified and that pictures of the 11 men and women should not be taken.
A private plane took the jurors to Paris and they are staying at an undisclosed location during the two-day visit.
The inquest into Princess Diana' death is being held at the Royal Courts of Justice in central London and is expected to last six months.
So far the information laid before the jurors has been a context-setting exposition of the main events surrounding the deaths. More detailed examinations of numerous contentious issues will begin later this week.
