Lance Armstrong will return to cycling in January with Kazakhstan's Astana team.
The seven-time Tour De France winner will join the Swiss-based team run by his friend Johan Bruyneel.
Armstrong, who had retired from cycling in January 2005, will compete in a six-day tour in Australia on January 20th.
The 37-year-old said he was not putting pressure on himself for an eighth Tour victory.
"I will try to be as prepared as possible. I don't know that that equals victory," the Texan said in New York.
"I have a fair bit of confidence, but not that kind of confidence. I don't know, honestly. I've been off the bike three years. I'll be nearly 38 years old, so I honestly don't know.
"I look forward to 2009, I look forward to racing again. I cannot guarantee an eighth Tour victory, but I can guarantee you the 'live strong' message will touch all aspects of our society.
"It's not very often someone gets a chance to spend three or fours years away from something, step back, and then say to themselves, 'I sort of miss that, I'd like to go back and do that again."
Armstrong is also planning a global summit to raise awareness about cancer in Paris after next year's Tour.
He survived testicular cancer before battling back to win his first Tour de France in 1999.
