New Zealand have got their rugby league World Cup campaign back on track with a comprehensive win over Papua New Guinea.
Having lost to Australia in their opening fixture last week it was vital for the Kiwis to get a victory over the minnows and they did so, running in nine tries in the 48-6 win.
New Guinea gave England a tough game last week but could not repeat those heroics against a dominant New Zealand side who were able to control possession better than Tony Smith's men.
The Kiwis score four tries in the first half, including a brace for Simon Mannering, however, the key to their success was their defence as New Guinea went into the break without registering a point on the board.
The Kumuls managed to cross the whitewash at the start of the second half thanks to David Moore but Issac Luke soon restored New Zealand's advantage.
David Faalogo and Adam Blair added further scores before Sam Perrett notched his second of the match. A try from Greg Eastwood completed the rout.
New Zealand are now second in the group behind Australia with England in third place.
All three sides are on two points with the Aussies facing England tomorrow.
Elsewhere, Fiji scored seven tries as they trounced France 42-6 in Group B of the competition.
Jarryd Hayne scored twice while Akuila Uate grabbed a hat-trick to put Fiji on top of a group that also contains Scotland.
