French president's former wife remarries in New York

The former wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy has married for the third time in New York.

50-year-old Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz's marriage to a millionaire events organizer Richard Attias, 48, comes five months after her divorce from the French head of state.

The wedding took place at the fancy New York venue, the Rainbow Room, which is on the 65th floor of the famous Rockefeller centre. Some 150 guests attended the ceremony, with most flying across the Atlantic for the event.

Rumours about the pair marrying have been doing the rounds for weeks and the pair's decision to tie the knot comes a month after the French president married former model and musician Carla Bruni after a whirlwind romance.

The president's approval ratings have plummeted below 50 per cent after media coverage of him on holiday with Ms Bruni dominated the French press.

Mr Sarkozy and Ms Ciganer-Albeniz had been married for 11 years, a period which included a brief separation. The French head of state's former wife was first married to television presenter Jacques Martin before leaving him for Mr Sarkozy.
