Gordon Brown has met with Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki today.
The British prime minister and his counterpart will attend a conference on investment in Iraq hosted by business secretary Lord Mandelson to discuss continuing British aid to the country later.
Mr Al-Maliki will also travel to France early next week to meet with French president Nicolas Sarkozy and prime minister Francois Fillon.
The meeting between Mr Al-Maliki and Mr Brown comes as British troops continue their withdrawal from Iraq.
Most of the troops are expected to have left the country by May 31st, with only around 400 remaining to train Iraqi forces.
On Wednesday, at least 17 people were killed during suicide attacks in Baghdad, following the deaths of 150 others last week in the capital and Diyala.
