Andy Murray crashed out of the Open Sabadell Atlantico with a second round 6-4 6-4 defeat to Mario Ancic.
The 20-year old went into the competition as a wild-card entrant and was looking to get his clay-court game up-to-scratch ahead of the French Open, which takes place in Paris next month.
However, the Scot got off to a poor start, losing the first three games and then failing to take advantage of the momentum which allowed him to draw level, to drop his serve at 4-5 to give Ancic the first set.
The Croat then took the second and decisive set by the same score-line, with Murray making a number of unforced errors.
Despite the result, Murray should retain his top-20 spot as the clay court season progresses.
