David Beckham's eye-watering contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy is causing resentment at the club, according to a veteran player.
Midfielder Peter Vagenas revealed his team-mates have reacted badly to Beckham's £128 million deal over five years with the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit.
The deal means Beckham, 31, will earn about £500,000 a week, which is 500 times more than most of his Galaxy team-mates.
Vagenas, who has been at the Galaxy for six years, hinted Beckham may not get a welcoming reception when he arrives in June.
"I think, as we all are fans of soccer, he is David Beckham and a wise man told me you're worth what you negotiate," Vagenas told the BBC.
"But at the same time, of course there's resentment, I'd be lying if I said there wasn't."
Vagenas, who is thought to earn about £63,000 a year, added that he does not blame Beckham for signing the deal.
"He's not stealing the money," Vagenas said.
"On the one hand more power to him and on the other you say 'why can't I be getting some of that?'."
Beckham signed the deal last week and will arrive in Los Angeles when his contract expires at Real Madrid at the end of the La Liga season.
The former England captain could feature in the Madrid team before he leaves the Bernabeu after boss Fabio Capello revealed he was impressed with the midfielder's dedication in training.
