A 16-year-old old boy is being held by police in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old in a west London street late yesterday afternoon.

Amro Elbadawi, 14, was stabbed in Dart Street, in West Kilburn, shortly before police were alerted by the Queens Park Health Centre on the same street at around 17:15 GMT.

Local road closures lasted into the late evening as police made the murder scene secure.

Amro was rushed to a central London hospital by London Ambulance Services but he was confirmed dead on arrival at 18:20 GMT.

The Metropolitan police have said they are retaining an open mind regarding the motive for the attack.

Amro was living in the Mozart Estate in West Kilburn with his family. He was a British national whose family had originated from Egypt.

The 16-year-old boy, arrested in connection with the incident at some time between 22:30 GMT yesterday and 01:00 GMT today, is being questioned at a north London police station.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Mortimer from the Met's Homicide and Serious Crime Command said: "Amro's life has been cut short in a needless manner before it has really begun.

"He was loved by his family and friends who are devastated by today's events. I would urge anyone who may have information to come forward and help us with our investigation."
